R Blake Miller
Art Appraisal & Consulting
I grew up working in the Houston Museum District, studied art history at Lesley University in Cambridge, and served as a docent at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, before moving to New York.
Once in New York full time, I worked in the office of Whitney Museum Director Adam Weinberg, then earned an MA in Art & Public Policy at NYU under the mentorship of Karen Finley, serving as a graduate researcher at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
In the years since, I have worked directly with directors of major fairs, including Elizabeth Dee of Independent, who was an instrumental figure in my early 30s and introduced me to the team at ARTSVP, where I worked to help art fairs around the world improve their communications and invitations. As a curator, I have presented over a dozen exhibitions at private venues and art fair booths, and published several articles about artists I admire. Today, I work with individuals and institutions to help value and manage their art collections as the founder of NY Art Appraisal.
My cousin Dorothy Blau was a Pop Art dealer, and my grandfather Fred Winchell a portrait photographer. Both were known for creating lasting relationships with their clients, and sharing their professional resources within the art world.
