The Metropolitan Museum of Art: Advancing Digital Media and Technology Integration
As a resident artist in the Media Lab within The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Digital Media Department, I contributed to the museum’s technology-forward initiatives, particularly during its major rebranding effort. My role focused on identifying emerging technologies and creating practical proposals to enhance operational efficiency across departments, including Curatorial, Visitor Services, Education, and Access.
Among my projects were the use of 3D printing to produce exhibition maquettes, tactile graphics for accessibility, and BLE-Bluetooth technology to improve wayfinding and gather visitor data. I also developed proposals for projection mapping in the museum’s ancient collections, using original colors and imagery to bring sculptures to life as they appeared in antiquity. Each proposal was presented in a series of in-person talks to senior museum staff, emphasizing ways these technologies could streamline museum operations and deepen visitor engagement.
My consulting work at The Met highlighted the potential of digital transformation within a storied institution, combining innovative solutions with practical applications. Many of these concepts remain part of ongoing projects, underscoring the lasting impact of forward-thinking digital media strategies.
