Whitney Museum of American Art: Supporting the Museum's Administration and Leadership
As an intern in the Director’s Office at the Whitney Museum of American Art, I provided essential administrative and project support directly to Alice Pratt Brown Director Adam Weinberg and Deputy Director John Stanley. My primary responsibility was assembling the museum’s reaccreditation packet for the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), a detailed process that involved surveying each department alongside the Deputy Director and gathering the critical materials required to secure the Whitney’s esteemed institutional status.
Working in the Director’s Office also brought high-level responsibilities, including coordinating international travel, managing confidential communications, and assisting with preparations for distinguished visitors. I facilitated meetings with prominent figures—including Met trustees and Lauder Foundation representatives—at a time when the Whitney was in a pivotal transition to its new downtown location. This experience gave me an invaluable, firsthand perspective on museum operations and the strategic role the Whitney plays within New York’s cultural landscape.
This early work at the Whitney Museum inspired my subsequent graduate thesis, which examined the Whitney’s architectural and cultural impact on the city. My experience there provided me with foundational skills in stakeholder engagement, accreditation, and leadership support, which have continued to inform my approach to arts administration and institutional strategy.
