Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston (CAMH): Developing Youth Programs and Community Engagement

At the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston (CAMH), I was part of a select group of young art professionals responsible for creating impactful youth programming and community engagement initiatives. My role included curating exhibitions, organizing public programs, and expanding CAMH’s reach through targeted outreach.

Growing up in Houston’s museum district, just steps from The Menil Collection and spending afternoons at the Rice University Art Gallery, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and numerous local art spaces gave me a unique understanding of the city’s vibrant arts culture. I also began interning in Marketing and Public Relations at the Houston Museum of Natural Science at a young age, which helped me develop the community-driven approach I brought to CAMH. Leveraging this experience, I implemented outreach strategies that included local directories and direct invitations, expanding access and increasing program attendance.

As editor of my high school newspaper, I often covered arts events in Houston, further amplifying CAMH’s visibility among local audiences. Years later, I joined The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, as well as the Houston Arts Alliance, the city’s Percent-For-Art Program to provide assistance with their park creation and cataloguing processes. This position at CAMH provided invaluable experience in audience engagement and arts programming, solidifying my commitment to cultural outreach and education.
