Wake

A convergence of forces drawn from the undertow, “Wake” is defined as both a disturbance and a trace. What moves beneath the surface can sometimes be seen from above.

As life seems increasingly tethered to the digital realm, our words and images now act more like fuel for algorithms than
connections to any human audience. The impact of art in society is both fed and challenged by widespread misinformation and
media illiteracy. It has never been more necessary to mark the passing of one moment, and the beginning of the next.

Art gives us a way to persist against mediocrity, and a sense of purpose that endures. The exhibition considers the tension
between body and spirit, states of intimacy and estrangement, and the art object as both material presence and conceptual
mischief.

This physical assembly is of works by artists sensitive to these themes. Offered by appointment only in the capsule of a
collector’s private residence on New York City’s Upper East Side, the exhibition is presented at the threshold of this century’s second quarter.
